November to December each year marks the cultivation season in Itumbili and in Magu District broadly. It is the responsibility of individual farmers to source seeds and start cultivation on their farms. Before, community members mostly relied on agricultural extension officers and village leaders for information related to farming as well as access to seeds and manure. Even when the community experienced challenges in accessing quality agricultural inputs, they had limited opportunity to demand or report these issues. The agricultural extension officers were rarely available at the village level and therefore the community's concerns were left unvoiced and not addressed. During 2024, MYCN established the Community Representative Committees (CRC), which did not exist before. Their primary role is to support the community in claiming their rights at the grassroots level.
